MICHAEL LIO, P.Eng, M.Eng

President, buildABILITY Corporation

Michael is a professional engineer who has consulted on projects and publications across North America relating to housing, energy efficiency, and sustainability. His studies have supported the development of the Energy Star for New Homes program in Ontario, the EnerGuide Rating System, and the new R-2000 Program.

Michael has worked with builders across Canada for more than 30 years. He has worked with Tarion since 1988 as a consultant and most recently as a board member. Michael has been a consumer advocate over his entire career. He was the Executive Director of the Consumers Council of Canada (2000 to 2008) and the Homeowner Protection Centre (2009 to 2014) and represented consumers on the boards of various organizations.

Michael has facilitated hundreds of training sessions for audiences across Canada. He also taught sustainable housing in the Architecture Program at Ryerson University for 12 years while for the last 15 years he has taught building science and building technology and ecology at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture at the University of Toronto.

DAVE HENDERSON

Henderson Brothers Contracting and Consulting

Dave has over 30 years experience in the residential construction industry in a variety of positions from hands-on trade experience to policy, Code and Tarion development. Dave is a former Tarion Operations Manager, Director of Industry Relations for the Ontario Home Builders’ Association and most recently Supervisor of Quality Assurance for Brookfield Residential. He has been involved in every Building Code change process with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing since 1992. Dave is also a co-author of the Tarion Construction Performance Guidelines.

 

Dave currently works with builders to analyze internal processes, identifying opportunities for quality improvements and customer service excellence.

EDDY ACETI, CPA, CGA, BA, LPA

Lead Audit Partner, Aceti Falcone LLP

Eddy has over 20 years of accounting experience the majority of which was served in public accounting. Eddy’s industry expertise includes construction, medical and other professional services, manufacturing, finance and mineral exploration.

In addition to being a licensed public accountant in Ontario, Eddy is a Certified Acceptance Agent listed with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Eddy is the lead audit partner for the firm. Outside of the firm Eddy has volunteered his time as a member of the finance committee for the ALS Society of Ontario.

LETIZIA FILIPPAZZO

Associate Counsel, Vassos Law LLP

Letizia is an associate counsel at Vassos Law and focuses in the areas of Corporate-Commercial and Residential Real Estate. She provides clients legal advice in the areas of; Financing, Commercial and Residential Real Estate purchases and sales. Letizia also provides legal advice with respect to Provincial Offence and Municipal Court matters.

 

Letizia earned a Juris Doctor Degree from Bond University Law School in Queensland, Australia. She was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2014. Additionally, she also obtained an Honors Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Toronto.

 

Letizia enjoys being part of several boards and committees. In 2013, she participated in the Ontario Condominium Act Review Board as a Consumer Advocate.

 

Outside of work, Letizia has volunteered her time with the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Feed the Hungry Program. She has also been active in organizing local Charity Gala’s and Fundraisers for Children.

ROBERT RAWLINGS, PMP

Regional Construction Manager, Parkbridge Lifestyle Communities

Robert is a certified Project Manager Professional (PMP), experienced construction manager and licensed carpenter with over 35 years of experience in the residential building industry.

 

Robert ran his own custom home building company for over 25 years garnering numerous provincial, national design awards and being named Ontario Homebuilders’ Association member of the year. Robert has also served on numerous boards and contributed back to the industry, including: Chair of OHBA Technical Committee; Part 9, OBC; Building Material Evaluation Commission (BMEC); Electrical Safety Authority (ESA); Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) Small Business Advisory Committee; OHBA/Tarion Liaison Committee; along with being charter member of the Tarion Construction Performance Guidelines.

Robert returned to McMaster University completing Diploma in Business Administration with Concentration Project Management. Robert went on to complete Management and pre-MBA courses at Harvard Business School.

Robert has consulted with numerous builders throughout United States and Canada focusing on efficiency, profitability, and his favourite topic, Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) construction.

Robert is currently working as the Regional Construction Manager for Parkbridge Lifestyle Communities, based in Collingwood, Ontario, where he is enjoying the multitude of outdoor activities in this four-season resort community.

CLIFFORD BLUNDELL, P.Eng

Barrister and Solicitor, Blundell Professional Corporation

Cliff’s practice focuses on the areas of professional negligence and construction disputes under the Tarion regime and ONHWP Act, CCDC Contracts, Construction Liens and Adjudication, Commercial Leases, Professional Disciplinary hearings, Insurance Law, section 128 Insurance Act Appraisal, and Arbitration.

Born and raised in Toronto, Clifford obtained a B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1982 and attained the designation of Professional Engineer in 1986 followed by the Certificate of Authorization in 1996 from the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario.

After working as a professional engineer in Canada for over 20 years, Clifford received an LLB from the National University of Ireland Galway in 2008, after which he attended the Honourable Society of the King’s Inns, in Dublin, Ireland and was called to the Bar Council of Ireland in 2010. Clifford returned to Ontario to be called to the Bar in 2015.

Clifford participates in rudimental drumming competitions throughout Canada and the US and enjoys boxing and spinning in his spare time.

JESSICA LACEY, CPA, CA

Partner and Business Advisor, MNP

Jessica is Partner and Business Advisor with MNP’s Real Estate and Construction Services team in Markham. Jessica works closely with homebuilders, land developers, condominium developers, and commercial and multi-residential property owners to help them realize their goals, proactively plan for the future and achieve peace of mind.

Drawing on over a decade of experience, Jessica delivers a full suite of assurance, tax and strategic planning services. She brings varying areas of expertise together to problem solve for her clients’ changing needs, particularly relevant for her multi-generational clients. She enjoys often going beyond the conventional scope of accounting to help her clients make strong business decisions.

Jessica earned an Honours Bachelor of Commerce (HBCom) from Lakehead University. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (CA). Jessica is a member of the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) Association’s yBILD (Young Builders) committee.
